The Federation of European Microbiological Societies (FEMS) leads the way in promoting excellence and equality in science, and channels high quality knowledge for solving today’s societal problems around microbiology. It does this by funding research, organizing collaborative projects, partnering with other organizations and publishing journals, including FEMS Microbiology Ecology (Impact Factor 3.530) and FEMS Yeast Research (Impact Factor 2.479).
Peerwith is a platform for expert-led researcher services, offering academics the opportunity to select, connect and collaborate with experts in researcher services to improve the quality of their academic work. Experts on Peerwith come from all academic disciplines and offer fair fees for services tailored to individual requirements. With our secure marketplace environment, our mission is to aid the advancement of science by helping researchers globally improve the quality of their academic work.
PARTNERSHIP FEMS AND PEERWITH
Peerwith’s partnership with FEMS began in 2016. We offer FEMS members access to Peerwith’s peer-to-peer researcher services marketplace through a FEMS branded landing page: www.peerwith.com/fems.
The partnership between FEMS and Peerwith offers benefits for journal editors, authors and society members alike. Collaboration with experts improves the quality of submitted manuscripts, leading to editorial efficiencies and ultimately reducing the time from submission to acceptance. According to a recent Nature article, the time taken from submission to acceptance is the most common complaint by authors, and pre-submission scientific editing services provided via Peerwith can help alleviate this problem. For FEMS members, Peerwith offers an opportunity for members to use their expertise to help fellow scientists, while at the same time generating additional income. This facilitation of open collaboration between FEMS-experts and FEMS-authors is what makes Peerwith unique.
Joanna Mackie, Msc Phd, is an active expert on Peerwith. Joanna is a trained research scientist in Biotechnology (MSc, 1999), Molecular Biology (PhD, 2003), Microbiology, and Biochemistry. She also has been acting as a substantive science editor for years. A member of a FEMS member society in the UK – Society for Applied Microbiology – Joanna joined Peerwith through its partnership with FEMS. Joanna has published two papers in FEMS Microbiology Letters, and has acted as a reviewer for FEMS Yeast Research. Joanna and FEMS in partnership with Peerwith is a great match. Joanna as the expert, serviced several FEMS members through Peerwith.
STUDY: AUTHOR SERVICE REQUEST
Prof Dr Ir Mike Jetten is a prominent member of the FEMS community and was a Speaker at their recent congress. After completing his first request via the FEMS branded landing page he posted the following comment:
Mike connected with expert Dawn Schmidt and gave her a 5* rating. After posting subsequent requests, Mike continues to be a satisfied customer providing the following feedback after his fourth service request:
“We have used peerwith 4 times: great service for affordable price and rapid <48h turn around.”
The feedback coming from Mike, a prominent scientist who has used Peerwith multiple times, demonstrates how peer-to-peer collaboration can improve the quality of scientific output, providing benefits to both researchers who utilize the author services on offer and those who provide them.
