Get to know the Peerwith experts episode
They get very
high ratings for a reason: the experts on Peerwith are great at what they do.
We feel that human interaction is really important in science collaboration and
to help you to get to know the experts a little better we asked them to answer
a few questions. We will regularly post their replies on this blog.
Celia, with a PhD in Human Genetics has studied in
Belgium, The Netherlands and Spain and currently works in Toulouse, France. She
speaks Spanish, French, Dutch and English.
What are the benefits of offering your services
benefits of Peerwith are that we, as editors, can get connected to any client
around the world and that we have the opportunity to dive into any scientific
subject. Every time I get a request, it is very exciting! The fact that you can
chat with clients and get their feedback is also great and very satisfactory.
What is the best request you received via Peerwith?
best request was the edition of a paper about lizards from a Mexican client. It
was challenging as it is a very different topic from what I am used to but I
enjoyed it very much. This is what I love about Peerwith: I am passionate about
language editing and translating so it is very stimulating to get such a
variety of requests.
Do you have any tips for authors, do you see
recurring mistakes in manuscripts?
most common mistakes I usually find are the usage of long and complicated
sentences, the lack of consistency and the tendency to nominalize verbs. About
the paper structure, the different sections are frequently not well defined, e.g.
results are described in the ‘materials and methods’ section and not in the
‘results’ section. I always give tips to my clients about how to improve their
academic writing skills so they can also learn from the process.
Do you have any plans for the holidays?
traveling, therefore during holidays, I always get some time away to explore
different countries and ways of living. I am totally in love with Tanzania and
Brazil, they are just breathtaking. I also keep some time to visit my family in
Spain, it is always fun to go back to your home country!
Do you have any New Year’s resolutions?
learning is my every year resolution. This year I aim at both growing as an
editor and keep assisting scientist fellows to the best of my ability.
What do you think
about the marketplace Peerwith and what would you say is the main benefit?
is a marketplace that connects academic authors and experts. Peerwith allows
clients to have access to a great variety of editors and reviewers and, in the
same manner, it allows editors to have access to many different assignments and
clients. Being an editor via Peerwith is a very exciting job as you have access
to clients you would have never connected to otherwise. Also, the Peerwith
platform offers the option for competitive and personalized price quotes as
there is a direct contact between the client and the editor via the Peerwith
chat. Every paper is different, so every quote should be tailored as well!

of study, where you are based, etc.
I am a
postdoctoral fellow in Human Genetics in Toulouse (France) for which I was
awarded with competitive funding. I hold a PhD in Medical Sciences by the
Radboud University, Nijmegen, the Netherlands. My PhD was in the field of Human
Genetics, specifically, it was about finding new genes involved in hearing
loss. During my PhD, I published nine articles in high impact journals and I
was awarded with multiple grants to attend different international conferences
and courses. Developing academic writing skills is very important in academia,
therefore I was trained in academic writing very intensively during that period
which I enjoyed very much.
my bachelor and master in Biotechnology (5 years of study) at the University of
Salamanca (Spain) and University of Ghent (Belgium). Biotechnology is a broad
discipline which exploits any biological process to develop new technologies.
My expertise in Biotechnology is a premium-quality skill that allows me to
successfully proofread any type of article in the area of Life Sciences.
