Carolien’s specialty is Online Marketing and she enjoys working with and living in different countries and cultures.
Although she’s Dutch, Carolien was born in Germany and after getting her degree in Marketing from Universidad de Zaragoza in Spain, she made the world her professional playground. She wrote a thesis about Corporate Sustainability for Heineken and spent 9 months working for BMW Group NL where she researched and executed the possibilities for commercial retail, which resulted in the MINI Brand Store in Amsterdam. Shortly after, she met her (now) Australian husband Chaplin while working at a movie project in the mountains of Switzerland.
They moved together to Amsterdam where she started her professional career in E-commerce and Online Marketing. But after 3 years of working for a corporate office (Sole Technology) and being trained by Google at the Google HQ in Amsterdam, she discovered that there was a big benefit in working “Online”: it doesn’t need to be location specific. So Carolien and Chaplin quit their jobs, sold their belongings and traded the concrete jungle for a real jungle as she started a position as (Online) Marketing Manager for a Toursim and Real Estate development company in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua.
Unfortunately due to family circumstances, this was only a brief adventure. Upon arrival back in The Netherlands, Carolien realized that she enjoyed being location independent for her profession and found a great match in Peerwith, as this online Platform is linking academics and researchers globally, online.
Nowadays Carolien and Chaplin are owning a property in Portugal, where they spend most of their time if they are not in The Netherlands. They still escape the European winters and trade it for Australia to spend time with family and continue to work on different projects in the television industry and of course, her work as Online Marketing Manager for Peerwith.
What Carolien like’s most about Peerwith is the personal level of interaction. Different from many other companies, there are not a lot of “doors to knock on” which makes the whole process on the Peerwith platform very simple, speedy and smooth. The popular platform with almost 4000 users is still very much focused on connecting directly to the right person, at the right time. Marketing wise this is very challenging, as most services Peerwith are only required at a certain stage in one’s life. But being able to connect with scientific researchers from all over the world, in this fascinating stage of their lives and being able to show them all the opportunities available, is truly very exciting!
