Tell us about yourself
I am a native speaker of English who worked
in the Netherlands, firstly as English teacher when my kids were young, then in
journalism as desk editor for two trade journals. Now back in my native
Scotland, I have worked in the health service, clinical trial projects, tourism
and on bid teams. I currently teach English to immigrants and help to create
opportunities in my local town.
Over the past 20 years, my contacts at
Dutch universities and consultancies regularly ask me to translate (NL-EN) and
edit their reports, articles and dissertations in a wide scope of subjects, or just
check their English in an important document. I enjoy having this trusted,
rewarding relationship with an ever-increasing network of academics all over
the world, being able to offer them personal help while keeping up-to-date with
diverse and topical studies.
What do you think about the Peerwith
concept?
The
Peerwith platform is easy to access ‒ you immediately see who requires
services, with a clear description of the task.
It is great that we can discuss whether my skills match your
requirements, negotiate a fair fee and agree a time-scale. The personal contact leads to a smoother
process from delivery to payment. This is in stark contrast to working through
a translation agency, when as expert I never speak to the client, nor ever find
out if the client was actually satisfied with my work.
Can you tell us about your experience
with Peerwith?
The first translation project I took on
through Peerwith went very smoothly, the client was satisfied and the payment
was very prompt.
Would you recommend Peerwith to others,
why?
Having personally dealt with the Peerwith
staff, I see they are professionals experienced in this field and dedicated to sourcing
and letting you find the right expert for your task. Cutting out the
impersonal, commercial agency and enabling personal contact improves the
quality of the end result and provides a fairer, much more realistic
remuneration for the time involved. As client, you can check out my credentials
before assigning the work. As freelancer, the work is more rewarding and I do
not have to bother about advertising or guaranteeing that I get paid,
advantages that I have recommended to my fellow-freelancers in Scotland, France
and Italy.
