Good afternoon Anastasia and welcome to the Peerwith team! We are excited to be having you on board, which, one could say is a direct result of the successful Peerwith Crowdfunding Campaign! Your main role at Peerwith is to support Experts with daily operations and be the main point of contact for questions and suggestions. So for them to reach out to you, we would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the community: Who is Anastasia Bernikova? Can you tell us a bit about your background – how did you first get started with Peerwith?
I originally come from Kaliningrad, Russia (between mainland Russia/ Latvia, and Poland). From a young age I had spent a considerable amount of time travelling between there and the Netherlands.I was very academic, which led me to studying English Language and Culture at Leiden University. After graduating, I still keep an interest in reading and learning from a variety of different sources and disciplines. These days, most of my time is spent with my daughter Sasha (6), my partner Joe (29), and our new pup Bella, a chocolate lab/ Friestabij. I joined Peerwith about a month ago, and I find working here very rewarding.
Thanks to the successful closure of the crowdfunding campaign, Peerwith could hire an Operational Manager – me! One of my tasks is to make sure enough experts with a matching expertise are invited to potentially interesting to them requests, which should result in more connections.
I was inspired to become a key contact as I really enjoy networking. When working in any given industry, I particularly like to develop a deep and varied knowledge of it’s processes, and I find that bringing contacts together for Peerwith allows me to do that, as each request requires the help of an expert for a specific field which could be from absolutely any academic discipline imaginable.
For my role as Peerwith Operational Manager, it is important to be passionate about networking, as this leads to symbiosis for experts and clients, and to great papers being edited and published.
Experts can contact me whenever they have any questions either regarding the requests they are working on, the functioning of the website or to give feedback on Peerwith, to name just a few. I will try to help as much as I can, and otherwise I will forward the support tickets or emails to my colleagues.
The major benefits that Peerwith offers to clients and experts are mainly that both parties are brought in direct contact, in which they stay throughout the entire work process. This is not the case in other forms of editing industry, which might often contribute to misunderstandings, and thus to deadlines not being met. Furthermore, Peerwith is safe: the expert will only start working once the client makes a payment, which will be secured safely and only paid out to the expert when the client accepts the delivered work. Besides editing services, Peerwith also encourages experts to offer manuscript reviews, translations, proofreading, thesis support, etc. Thus, our clients have a remarkably wide range of services available to them.
For myself, working with Peerwith offers a number of benefits. Firstly, it is incredibly practical for my lifestyle. It allows me to be at home to care for my young daughter, whilst at the same time gaining the satisfaction I crave from working in a professional environment and making a positive and useful contribution to the company I work for.
I would advice researchers to be as specific as possible when posting their request, and offer a reasonable budget. Clarity will most likely speed up the process of making the connection with the right expert and having the service done within a given deadline.
